I have a problem with how these girls are being portrayed. I understand she’s sucking a controller, and I know that there are girls out there who attract attention to themselves by getting into video games, but just because a girl likes to look nice and also likes to play video games, that suddenly makes her a “fake gamergirl”?
Even with the girl in the second panel, she’s being portrayed as a girl whose personal needs come after her video gaming. She’s ~devoting her life~ to these games (as a stereotypical male gamer would). And if she does anything other than that, like, god forbid, TAKE A SHOWER BEFORE SHE BEATS HER GAME, she’s not a “real gamergirl”. It’s generalization and perpetuating the concept that women who wear makeup or make the effort to look nice are just trying to get attention and don’t actually care about what they’re doing, as long as someone thinks they’re hot. Sorry, but I like to wear makeup when I get shit done. I didn’t realize that I can’t succeed and look fabulous doing it.
I think you’re reading a little bit deeply into a webcomic.
Nobody’s telling gamer girls that they can’t shower or look nice. It’s just a silly joke.
